If you find yourself in Detroit and are in the mood for a cozy pick-me-up, look no further than The Mug. Nestled at 8747 2nd Ave, this delightful café has quickly become a beloved local gem, celebrated for its mouth-watering pastries and inviting atmosphere.

The Mug is not just any café; it’s a community haven where the aroma of fresh coffee mingles with the sweet scent of baked goods, creating an ambiance that feels both warm and welcoming. Customers rave about the quality and freshness of the food, with many noting that everything is made from scratch daily—the kind of kitchen that feels a little like home.

One of the standout features of this café is its impressive array of pastries. Fan favorites include the Cherry and Cream Cheese Danish, renowned for its flaky croissant-like crust and perfectly balanced sweetness. As one reviewer, Lauren Reed-Gibson, enthusiastically states, “Everything is made from scratch the day of!!!” The cherry cheese danish is a must-try, praised for its irresistible flavor by multiple guests, alongside savory offerings like turkey, spinach, cheese & egg pies that are equally delightful.

But the charm of The Mug goes beyond the menu. Patrons appreciate the friendly, personable staff who imbue the space with an inviting energy. It’s not surprising that frequent visitors often describe it as a community-oriented establishment, where artists can showcase their work and eclectic tunes play softly in the background, capturing the heart of Detroit's vibrant culture.

Don’t miss out on the coffee, which has received rave reviews for its exceptional quality. Enthusiasts have declared it surprising for a café that shares its space with such delectable pastries—indeed, Joseph Tegerdine noted, “the coffee was exceptional! Did not expect such good coffee on a random visit.” Whether you opt for a gluten-free option or indulge in one of their homemade simple syrups, you are sure to leave with a smile.

While the pastries are known to sell out quickly, as hinted by Samuel Painter, who recommends arriving early and speaks highly of the signature Lemon Clouds and Cherry Cheese Danish, it’s the welcoming vibe and attention to detail that attract a diverse crowd, making every visit a unique experience.

In a bustling city like Detroit, The Mug stands out not just for its culinary offerings but for its commitment to fostering community connection. Whether you’re in for a leisurely morning, a quick grab-and-go, or a chance to relax with a book and a pastry, this café promises satisfaction on every level.

So when you're navigating the cafes of Detroit, make The Mug a priority—it’s more than just a meal; it's a slice of local warmth served up with a side of happiness.

This place is the bomb!!! I would give more stars if I could. The best cafe in the city, hands down. The pastries are ELITE, no other pastries compare! Also, very reasonable prices. Staff is friendly and personable. Dining area is clean and cozy. I rarely leave reviews but this place knocks it out of the park. Must try if you are in the area!

Triple crown experience... right here! The people, the food, the price. It's fantastic! Opens at 8:00, closes at 1:00. The pastries don't last long, so get here early. Lemon clouds are signature, cherry cheese Danish... MAAAN. Savory pastries and sandwiches. This is a community oriented establishment. Local artist featured... the play the best music.

EVERYTHING IS MADE FROM SCRATCH THE DAY OF!!! The pastries here are absolutely delicious! Especially the Cherry and Cream Cheese Danish! The crust is that of a croissant and the filling has the perfect amount of sweetness! The atmosphere has good vibes, and the workers (Owners) are amazing!
